Traffic Reminder!!! (Updated)

School starts back on 08/14/2006.

Remember to be aware that Sheriff's Office personnel will be directing traffic at Rabun County High/Middle School and at the intersection of U.S. 441 and Boggs Mtn. Road. Please pay attention to the personnel directing traffic and remember to use your turn signals to help keep traffic moving as smoothly as possible. (It would also be very helpful in these areas if you would not be on or using your cell phones.)

The road construction zone on Ga. 15 (Hwy 441) between Clayton and Tallulah Falls will have significant travel delays during heavy traffic times, including holidays. This will be unavoidable until the road construction is completed. People will need to try to be patient or, if possible, use an alternate route when traveling in this area of Rabun County.

Finally, the speed limit in the road construction zone is 45 MPH. Fines for traffic violations, such as speeding, in the road construction zone can be higher. Pay attention and drive safe.

Teen & School Student Drivers License Information!!!

Some laws that were passed earlier in 2004 by the Georgia Legislators and signed into law by Governor Perdue went into effect on July 1, 2004. Among the laws that went into effect were school attendance requirement changes for teens who are under the age of 18 getting or keeping a learners permit or a drivers license. Teens under the age of 18 must be enrolled in public or private school or an approved home school program and have an attendance record in good standing or have received their diploma or GED to apply or keep an instructional permit or driver's license.

The provision of a student quitting school with parental permission and being able to keep their drivers license has been removed or repealed.
What this means is if a student quits school and even has the permission of a parent or legal guardian to do so, and the student is under the age of 18, that student's learners permit or drivers license will be suspended by the State of Georgia, once the State is notified by the school system, and the student will no longer be legal to drive a vehicle. Reminder!!!

The sheriff's office has free gun locks available to the public courtesy of Project ChildSafe. The purpose of Project ChildSafe is a nationwide program whose purpose is to promote safe firearms handling and storage practices among all firearms owners through the distribution of key safety education messages and free gun locking devices.
